Los Angeles, California – CARICON, the Caribbean Literary Conference featuring food, music and cultural programming from across the Caribbean region and the diaspora, makes its 2021 debut! CARICON 2021 will be celebrated under the theme: “Rebirth” and will stream live over the internet over 3 days, Friday June 4, Saturday June 5 and Sunday June 6, 2021.

As an international literary conference, CARICON will bring together the most successful elements of Caribbean Literature and cultural heritage the first weekend of June each year. This event sets the stage for the start of Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrations in Southern California.

The program will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, workshops, book launches, poetry readings, children’s programs as well as an array of literary vendors and musical performances. As a not-for-profit initiative designed to enrich the community, CARICON will be streamed online for free and our workshops will be accessible for a minimal fee.

CARICON is an innovative annual project conceived by Steve Russell (former Co-Director of Caribbean Literary Festival). Mr. Russell says that “this new bold venture will serve authors, poets, storytellers and other literary enthusiasts in the same vein,” and that “this new concept will be a great avenue for Caribbean authors to showcase and promote their work globally while attracting readers, educators, publishers, editors, literary agents and other deal makers in the literary industry.”

CARICON is sponsored by the Los Angeles-based non-profit organization Jamaica Cultural Alliance, the Jamaica Tourist Board and Dominican Republic Tourist Board. The conference also provides sponsorship opportunities for community partners interested in exposing their business to a global audience in the upwards of 1 million.
